Chapter OneA little wonder before goodnight

A little care, behind the magic.

Chapter One privacy policy · Updated September 4, 2026

Chapter One is made by Gazzini Ventures for families to create and read personalized storybooks together. A parent or guardian manages creation, optional photos, purchases, account recovery, and sharing.

What stays on your device

Your local library, reading settings, and saved cast are stored on your device. Account credentials and a saved recovery key use the device’s secure storage. Speech recognition for reading runs on the device; that reading audio is not sent to our generation server. Microphone access can be changed in your device settings.

Making a story

Creating a book sends the story idea, chosen world, and cast details you provide to our server. We use external providers to write the story, produce illustrations, and generate narration. Current provider integrations include Google, OpenAI, Replicate, and ElevenLabs. A provider receives the inputs needed for the requested stage; its own processing and retention terms apply.

Photos are optional. If you add one, it is transmitted to our server and the image provider to create an illustrated character. Our server holds the original photo only as temporary generation data: it is deleted after the character stage, when a job ends, or by a 24-hour cleanup backstop. Original child photos are never saved to our asset storage. Finished book records exclude original photos and appearance descriptions.

The server keeps job status and generated story assets so the app can finish or resume downloading a book. Completed generation jobs and their temporary assets are cleaned up after seven days. Books deliberately uploaded for sharing stay until deleted. Server-stored books and account-linked generation data can be removed through Delete online account. We do not log story prompts, request bodies, photo content, or narration text. Operational logs contain request paths and status, or task identifiers, status, and timing.

Accounts, purchases, and recovery

The app creates a device account without asking for a child’s email address. Apple processes App Store purchases. RevenueCat manages the purchase customer identity and book-credit balance; we do not receive your full payment-card details.

You can save a private recovery key in For grown-ups. Our server stores a hash of that key. Anyone with the key can recover account access, so keep it private. Recovery keeps your account identity and remaining credits and can retrieve books you previously uploaded for sharing. It does not back up local-only books; export those book files separately.

Sharing is a grown-up choice

Sharing a link uploads a finished, scrubbed book and its illustrations and audio. Anyone with that link can read the book, including the names and illustrated characters it contains. Links are unlisted and marked to stay out of search results; they are not password-protected. Share them with people you trust.

Stop sharing turns off the public book link. Previously issued media links may remain accessible until they expire, normally within one hour. We cannot recall files or pictures another person has already saved. Exporting a book file shares a separate copy that you manage yourself.

Your controls

For grown-ups includes account recovery, book backups, sharing controls, and Delete online account. Deletion removes the device account, unused credits, recovery access, associated server books, and generation data. Stories and cast photos already saved on your device stay there; you can remove them from your collection and cast. Apple or RevenueCat may retain purchase records under their own obligations. Deletion does not cancel or refund a completed consumable purchase. You can request an eligible purchase refund through Apple.

We do not sell personal information or use advertising trackers. If you contact support, we receive the information you choose to send. Please do not email child photos, recovery keys, or payment details.
